Philadelphia Phillies’ John Mayberry, Jr. tries to be candid in Exit Interview - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder John Mayberry, Jr. accepts part of the blame for the failure of the club during the regular season.
He has realised that his inability to produce runs in the beginning of the season cost the team immensely. At the same time, he has talked about other individuals in the team who did not live up to expectations, causing the Phillies to struggle big-time.
John Mayberry did not speak names of the players but he did mention that some of the members of the Phillies who generally are the mainstay of the club were below par. He is equally disappointed with himself over not lifting the Phillies when they needed
his contributions desperately.
Mayberry has attempted to absolve himself on the grounds that later on in the season he began putting in better performances regularly.
He believes by the time Shane Victorino was traded by the Phillies, he did not let the club miss his absence in the outfield. He has added that he did not make fumbles and recorded plays more often than not from there.
When he was asked to choose the number between one and ten, with ten representing that he was solely responsible for the failure and one signifying exactly the opposite of it, he gave himself five rating. He defended the choice stating that his duty was
not about controlling every little aspect of the Phillies which links with their success.
“If we're being honest here, I'd say around a "5." Sure, I didn't play so hot, but what am I supposed to do? Refuse playing time? Sometimes I feel really badly for Dom, though,” Mayberry said.
The Phillies are currently looking to build up a strong team for the future. They are extremely unhappy with the way they battled all through the season and how they could not avoid losing streaks.
Their offence was complete disaster some times during the season as it spoiled solid outings on the mound of their pitchers.
Phillies host quality hurlers on rotation and yet they suffered losses. On a number of occasions, their starters completed impressive spells on the mound, which in any other club will have most probably ensured wins for them.
Unfortunately, complete unresponsive attitude of the Phillies’ offence did not let them post reasonable number of wins in the season.
As far as Mayberry is concerned, he has confessed that he did not perform his role appropriately. “I failed to hold onto the offensive gains I made last season, including against right-handed pitching. But I stepped up and did an adequate job patrolling
center field after Shane got traded. Mr. Amaro says Stanford men take instruction well,” Mayberry acknowledged.
As the Phillies prepare for upcoming season, fans will be expecting that they reinstate their dominance in the National League East Division and perform consistently in the years to come.
