Philadelphia Phillies Michael Young grateful to his Texas Rangers teammates-MLB Update
Newly acquired infielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, Michael Young is extremely grateful to his former Texas Rangers teammates.
After being confirmed as the Phillies’ player from now onward, he took the opportunity to thank all those who supported him all through his journey with the Rangers.
The Rangers are the team that Young began his Major League expedition from. He remained a part of the club throughout his career before being sent to the Phillies the other day.
He is considered amongst the most powerful hitters of the game. However, this last season was a disappointment for him.
Young struggled to get going and failed to get his hitting excellence at the plate. Unlike his normal batting average during a year, he languished for the most part of the 2012 season at around .277.
Although such a batting average is not bad, but by his standard it is far from satisfactory.
Phillies view Young as their regular offensive contributor next season. He has been acquired by the club mainly because of his ability to slam home runs on a consistent basis.
Interestingly, the Phillies are not paying much attention to the subpar batting show by him during the 2012 season and the possibility of a continuation of it in the upcoming year.
Largely, they are taking his previous season expedition as an exception while being hopeful of a rebound soon.
Young had the no-trade clause in his last agreement with the Rangers but he did not invoke that option.
Instead, he accepted the offer of being shipped to the Phillies. This shows that he is excited about playing a major role in the victories of Philadelphia.
Certainly, this a great sign for the club.
"Baseball was easy," Young said. "I wanted to go. I don't mean that to be harsh, it was just a great opportunity in Philly, having the opportunity to go from one great team to another one. I was pleased with the role they outlined for me. I was ready for
a different challenge. I wanted to push myself."
Young will be looking to reverse his decline that he began to suffer in the last season.
He will try to end up being a standout performer for the Phillies during the 2013 Major League regular season.
