Philadelphia Phillies’ Ryan Howard talks of his first home run of the season - MLB Update
After staying out of the season from the start, the Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman Ryan Howard has escaped the disabled list on July 6, 2012. Immediately after playing his first game of the season, Howard has started showing his power as a slugger.
By hitting a mammoth homer against the Los Angeles Dodgers the other day, he seems to have justified the debate which arose when the Phillies plummeted on the table during the season and failed to maintain their dominance in the Division. It appears the
questions that experts raised about how the Phillies could improve if their line-up featured the sluggers like Howard and Chase Utley were right.
Meanwhile, Howard is extremely pleased with the way he struck his maiden home run of the season against the Dodgers. While he is disheartened with the fact that the Phillies fared poor in the first half, he is looking forward to help the club improve drastically
by contributing offensively at this time of the season.
Certainly, by continuing his splendid shows on the plate, he can help the club exit the season respectably with much improved winning percentage. At-least the humiliation of concluding the season at the bottom of the table can be avoided. The fact Utley
has also come back in the line-up, doing so can be easier.
Meanwhile, Howard shares his feelings after hitting a massive home-run in the game. For him, it was one of the rare moments of pleasure that he has experienced this season. Furthermore, he is confident that he can build on the momentum gained from it and
can come up with more home-runs in upcoming games.
“It was definitely big, and it was something that was very meaningful today because we won,” Howard said. “I feel good. Now it’s just a matter of getting back into the flow of playing at this level, making adjustments and slowing myself down at times. Sometimes
I get to be too quick.”
Regardless of their chances of making it to the play-offs, the Phillies can expect flurry of fireworks coming off from the bat of Howard in the remaining part of the season.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact Howard will have for the Phillies during this crucial part of the regular season.
