Philadelphia Phillies beat Miami Marlins 1-0 as Jimmy Rollins hammers a home run - MLB Update

The shortstop Jimmy Rollins hits a home-run for the sole run coming off in the game as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 1-0 at Marlins Park, Miami in the second match of the three game series on August 14, 2012.
In a low scoring match, both the teams battled hard to make connections on the plate and post runs. Neither the Marlins nor the Phillies were impressive offensively.
If it was not for the first inning home-run by Rollins, the game would have remained a tie.
The occurrence of just nine hits in the whole game reflects the frailties that the offence of both the clubs suffers.
From the Phillies’ line-up, their first baseman Ryan Howard was hitless on Tuesday. Similarly, their left fielder Juan Pierre could not connect hit in the four at-bats that he came across.
As far as Philadelphia’s pitchers were concerned, their starter Kyle Kendrick completed seven scoreless innings. He yielded five hits while striking-out six.
Meanwhile, Kendrick appears to be grateful to the relief pitchers that kept the lead intact in the face of late-innings attempts by the Marlins. As a result, they helped Kendrick record his fifth win of the game.
"It was a big win," Kendrick said. "(Johnson) was obviously pitching well. I was able to go deep enough. Josh and Pap were able to close it out, that was nice. Getting later in the game we knew that he was pitching well so we had to keep it there."
The Phillies were fortunate enough to see their relievers taking them through the penultimate innings safely toward the victory. Unlike what the Phillies’ bullpen is prone to in general, both Josh Lindblom and Jonathan Papelbon finished scoreless innings.
The Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson was unlucky as he suffered the loss despite throwing a tremendous spell of eight innings on Tuesday. His impressive outing on the mound went in vain due to the lack of support from the offence. He pitched eight innings and
struck-out seven.
Phillies cannot afford to let complacency take over after winning the game. Still there is a long way to go before they can claim that they have fixed their loop-holes. They will be looking to keep their winning momentum going and perform even better in
the last game of the series.
