Philadelphia Phillies beat Milwaukee Brewer to avoid a clean sweep series, 1-2: MLB Update
Placido Polanco hit a three run shot to tie the game before Shane Victorino eventually sealed the victory for the Philadelphia Phillies, as they beat Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in their last
game of the three game series at the Citizen bank Park on Wednesday. The Phillies avoided the clean sweep after going 0-2 in the previous two games, which they lost by 6-3 and 9-0.
Carlos Gomez and Braun put the Brewers upfront with their two earned run average (ERA) the first and the third inning. Jonathan Lucroy strengthened the Brewers’ lead with his solo shot
to the left. However, the Phillies came back in the sixth inning, scoring game-tying three runs. The Brewers’ Chris Narveson allowed a walk to Wilson Valdez, who reached the third base on Shane Victorino’s single to the shallow left. With Victorino and Valdez
on first and third base, Placido Polanco hit his second homer of the season to make an amazing comeback.
On the very first pitch of the eighth inning, Victorino hit the game winning homer that remained decisive till the end of the game as Jose Contreras pitched a score-less ninth inning for
the Phillies.
Cliff Lee is yet to earn a win this season. Lee didn’t make a convincing start after his highly anticipated move from the Texas Rangers this year. In the game against the Brewers on Wednesday,
he leaked three early runs to give the Brewers a chance to win the game, but he escaped his first loss of the season due to the late Phillies’ comeback. He allowed eight hits and a walk in six innings and could strike out only one batter. Ryan Madson earned
the second win of the season with score-less eighth inning. Jose Contreras was once again impressive, as he threw a score-less innings in a crucial time to save his fourth game.
Chris Narveson spoiled his stats in the sixth inning after remaining score-less in his initial five innings. He was more impressive than his experienced counterpart, Cliff Lee. It took
him only 84 pitches to complete his six innings that included only four hits and four strike outs. Three more than Cliff Lee. Brandon Kintzler lost his first game by giving decisive one run in the eighth inning.
With this win, the Phillies retained the top position in National League East Zone with 11 wins out of 17 games. The Florida Marlins are second in the list with one less win than the Phillies
in 16 games. The Milwaukee Brewers have moved themselves up in the table after winning the series against the Phillies. They are sharing the third place along with St. Louis Cardinals in the East Zone.
