Philadelphia Phillies beaten by Cincinnati Reds 1-2 as Kyle Kendrick gives up home run-MLB Update

Home run given up by starter Kyle Kendrick proves costly as the Philadelphia Phillies are beaten 1-2 by the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio on September 4, 2012 in the second match of the three game series.
All through the game Phillies remained quiet offensively. Apart from the walk that their left fielder Domonic Brown drew, their batters did not connect even a single hit that sent a base-runner aboard.
All in all they produced just four hits on Tuesday far less than Cincinnati that brought seven.
Against Reds’ starter Mat Latos, Phillies did not have an answer as to how to tackle the throws and fetch runs off him. It was not just the starter who dominated them but they were equally unimpressive against the relievers.
The last two innings of the match provided Philadelphia an ideal opportunity to score a couple of runs and win the match. Given the fact the relievers were on the mound at this stage, it was not difficult for them to take advantage of the pressure and strike
big hits. As they squandered the opportunity, their defeat was inevitable.
Kendrick started for Philadelphia. Apart from the home-run that he allowed, he was reasonably successful in restricting the hitters. He yielded six hits in six innings while striking-out three.
Meanwhile, Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel discussed how their base-runners were caught up in trouble while being unable to find productive hits struck from the batters at the plate.
"Basically our runners, they got all messed up," Charlie Manuel said. "They got all confused. They didn't know where to go. "It was a bad break. We could have had a hit there and a run for sure. It's kind of how things go for us, huh?"
Phillies’ shortstop struck his 2000th career hit in the game. While he is happy he vows to achieve more laurels in his career.
"It was great, but 3,000 is better," said Rollins. "That's the one that's celebrated. It's another milestone in a career, but it's not the one that's celebrated. So it's just another hit."
The loss will be a setback to the kind of smooth expedition the Phillies had managed in the last couple of months.
Philadelphia will be looking to win the last match of the series.
