Philadelphia Phillies blank Atlanta Braves 3-0 as Cole Hamels throws complete game - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ starter Cole Hamels shut-out the Atlanta Brave 3-0 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 7, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
Hamels has recently been privileged with contract extension worth $144 million for six years by the Phillies.
A splendid show on the mound on Tuesday will be encouraging for the management as they fancy Hamels taking the club to glories in the years to come.
During the game, Atlanta was totally outfoxed by Hamels. Restricting their batters to just five hits, Hamels was scoreless in the whole game. Furthermore, he struck-out six.
Meanwhile, the third baseman Chipper Jones struck one hit on Tuesday in three at-bats for the Braves. Similarly, their catcher Brian McCann was 1-for-3 in the game.
As far as the Phillies’ batters were concerned, their first baseman Ryan Howard hammered a two-run homer in the match, which will be heartening for him in light of the fact that he was struggling earlier. However, Philadelphia’s second baseman Chase Utley
was hitless.
Meanwhile, Jones has talked of how difficult it was hitting Hamels in the game. He praises him for the way he restricted batters and did not gave up even a single run in the match.
"Give Cole a three-run cushion and it's awful tough," Chipper Jones said. "He's tough enough anyway. When he gets that far in front, it makes it tough on the offense."
Furthermore, Hamels stresses the importance of playing the natural game. After helping his team winning the game, he is of the view that if they can replicate such a performance in the upcoming games, they can improve their winning percentage to a great
extent.
"When you have the guys we have, the organization has the core guys they want," Hamels said. "It shows signs of what we have and what we have to come. If we can be ourselves, we know we can win a lot of games."
The Braves will be looking to rebound quickly after losing on Tuesday. Their offence is not known for slumping the way it did in the match.
In the next game, they will be looking to see their hitters stepping up and posting reasonable number of runs on the scoreboard.
