Philadelphia Phillies clinch stunning 7-1 win against Miami Marlins - MLB Update
Catcher Carlos Ruiz put in a brilliant performance as he hit a homer to help the Philadelphia Phillies defeat Miami Marlins 7-1 in thumping fashion during their regular season contest on April 11, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
A massive turnaround from the last few games, Phillies scored seven runs in the match. Amazing 14 hits struck in the game and a homer they drew can easily invoke an issue of their restoration to their very best.
Winner of Division Championship in the last five seasons, they confront a huge challenge ahead to prove if they can be equally great this year.
As for the Marlins, it was a first loss after five games suspension imposed on their manager Ozzie Guillen.
They generated only five hits in 32 at-bats, something miserably alarming for a side which spent $191 million in off-season purchases for three all-stars.
Phillies saw their centre-fielder Shane Victorino hitting twice in four at-bats, adding one RBI and completing one run.
Couple of days back, he responded to critics and asserted Phillies’ ability to turn out impressive despite being weak in offence.
No wonder he had something special to say after the game.
"It's only Game 5, we have to forget about it and get ready for tomorrow, but yeah, it's great to get seven runs," Victorino said. "We'll definitely take it, and we just have to keep on doing the little things. Whether it's laying down a bunt, stealing a
base, small ball, that's what we're going to have to do. And the thing about it is it works. I can't see us changing that philosophy, even when the big guys come back."
Marlins’ starter Josh Johnson let them down and in little more than three innings, he gave up 11 hits and six earned runs while striking-out once.
Johnson’s matchup in the game, Roy Halladay did stupendously well for the Phillies.
In the seven innings he pitched, he gave up one earned run as he struck-out three and conceded five hits.
His outing was not different to his first one, but the fact he received reasonable run support this time, he managed victory for his side.
Both teams now stand one and one in their three games series.
While Phillies will be happy as their hitters have taken on the responsibility, Marlins will be looking to do some soul-searching before playing their next game.
