Philadelphia Phillies’ contract negotiations with Cole Hamels reach sensitive phase - MLB Update
With the trade deadline of July 31 around the corner, the Philadelphia Phillies will be expediting the process of negotiations of a long-term contract extension to their starting pitcher Cole Hamels.
The organisation, as per the reports, confronts the predicament of whether trading him to the teams that need his services or making sure at-first that he will not go anywhere after this season.
The speculations are rife regarding Hamels’ contract renewal from day one in the season. The fact the starting pitcher will head into the free agency if the Phillies do not make any attempt to retain him further enlivens the debate about his future organisation.
Hamels has appeared in the All-Star Game this year that was played in the Kansas City. He was awarded this privilege due to the fact that as a starter he has been terrific for his team in the first half of the season.
It is for the same reason perhaps Philadelphia is going all-out to ensure Hamels will stay in the club for a long time period. To this effect, the organisation has offered him a lucrative deal, which has yet to be approved by the 28-year-old starting pitcher.
The club has gone so far in this regard that they have reverted from their earlier offer of five-years to giving him a six-year contract now.
According a source close to the concerned authorities, Hamels and his agent John Boggs will be finalising a response to the offer shortly. In light of the fact that trade deadline has approached and that the Phillies aim to sign the deal at the earliest,
one can expect that within few days the two parties will reach a conclusion.
Meanwhile, if one evaluates the personal leanings of Hamels, he has expressed his desire to spend the future with the Phillies, earlier. He has stated that his affiliations with the club have reached a point from where parting ways with the team will hurt.

In this perspective, Hamels is likely to embrace the Phillies and will ink a long-term agreement with them. However, nothing can be said with certainty until both the parties make official announcements.
