Philadelphia Phillies could sign Scott Hairston and Vernon Wells – MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies have almost completed their 2012 Major League Baseball offseason signings but sources are speculating in the media that Phillies’ office at Citizens Bank Park is still looking to add some more fire power in the roster.
Phillies’ general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is willing to spend more money to bring couple of experienced hitters. Currently the Phillies have not officially showed interest to sign new players but reliable sources do suggest that GM Amaro Jr. is impressed
with the free agent Scott Hairston and Vernon Wells’ last season’s performances.
In view of both players’ overwhelming offensive performances, the Phillies have now convinced that Vernon and Hairston’s addition will be a great sign for Philadelphia’s big league team.
“You win with pitching and defense and we feel we’ve addressed some of those areas with what we’ve done so far,” Amaro said at Adams’ unveiling Thursday
“It’s more about production than power,” Amaro said. “We would like to add more production, If we can get power, great. But it’s more necessary to add a piece that will help us produce runs.”
Vernon Wells is currently playing with the Los Angeles Angels and considered one of the top left fielders in the Major League Baseball. In order to sign him, the Phillies have to create a possible trade with the Angels.
As Angels too recognize his talents and want him to be part of their roster for next big event in the big league. In the recent past Major League season, Wells was certainly exceptional in the outfield. He not only batted well on the plate but his extraordinary
athleticism in the field was also a boosting factor in his offensive game.
He finished with great numbers and showed true calibre by achieving consistent stats throughout the season. He went with .230 hitting average along with 11 homers, 29 RBIs and .279 OBP.
On the other hand, the other player Phillies want is Scott Hairston who last played for the New York Mets in 2012 Major League Baseball season and achieved good consistent numbers.
He finished the season on a high note achieving .263 hitting average along with 20 homers, 57 RBIs and .299 OBP.
