Philadelphia Phillies could sign more free agents – MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies are trying to take some desperate measures seeing the situation of their franchise’s recent development.
Phillies' management understand that in order to do well in the coming Major League Baseball season, they will be looking to add some more fire power in the active roster.
Phillies' front office seems quite busy as they are preparing hard for Winter Meetings in which their top executives will make decisions to secure some vital development for the next Major League season.
These securities of getting good results with high performances, is somewhat related with good free agents’ addition in the roster.
The Phillies recently made clear that one free agent, B.J. Upton is their top priority in this offseason. Upton, a former Tampa Bay Rays' outfielder, is highly talented player and considered one of the most impressive players in recent times.
“I think that once Thanksgiving passes, as we get closer to Christmas, organizations want to put their teams on the field for their fans, Fans want to know who they’re going to be cheering for and get excited about their clubs. We’re no exception,” said Phillies' general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.
He added, “We’ve had some good discussions, some fruitful discussions, with agents as well as other clubs. There are some situations where we’re waiting right now on someone to say ‘yes,’ and other situations where other teams are waiting for us to say ‘yes.’ After Thanksgiving, things often get steamier. That’s the nature of the baseball timeline.”
Upton last played for the Tampa Bay Rays with consistent average. He performed with quite consistency and showed good temperament during the entire season.
He finished with .246 hitting average along with 28 homers, 78 RBIs and .298 OBP.
Upton is seven-year Major League veteran and knows his worth. Over the course of seven-years, he remained consistent with .255 hitting along with 118 homers, 447 RBIs and .336 OBP.
Experts believe that Phillies, who have already made their mind to add some fire power in the roster, might give a potential lucrative deal to Upton which will be a very healthy sign for the teams future.
