Philadelphia Phillies defeat Florida Marlins 6-4 in first match of three game series – MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies put in a tremendous effort as they managed to beat the Florida Marlins 6-4 in the first outing of the three game series on May 9 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.
It was a brilliant team effort on the part of the Phillies as they dominated the Marlins. Philadelphia is showing their prowess as they have managed to win one against Florida.
The Marlins were horrible in the field as they seemed to be having problems catching the ball as the Phillies took advantage of the Marlins sloppy fielding.
The Phillies dominated early as Jimmy Rollins hit a fabulous home-run in the top of the first inning to take Philadelphia to a 1-0 lead. The Marlins fought back as Chris Coghlan and Hanley Ramirez managed to score off a double by Gaby Sanchez to take the
score in Florida’s favour 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
The Marlins again scored, this time in the second inning as Omar Infante came home from a single by Coghlan, to take the score to 3-1. Philadelphia clawed their way back in the third inning as Joe Blanton scored off a Howard single to move the score to 2-3.
Polanco and Rollins managed to score in the third inning off a single by Ross Gload to take the score to 4-3 in the Phillies favour.
The Phillies continued to dominate as Shane Victorino off a sacrifice fly from Polanco in the fifth inning to get the score up to 5-3. Then Ross Gload hit a single and brought in Howard to move the score to 6-3 in the fifth inning for the Phillies. The Marlins
tried to fight back, but it was in vain as Sanchez hit a brilliant home-run in the eighth inning to make the final score 6-4 in favour of the Phillies.
Philadelphia had a brilliant game as once again they managed to fight their way back after being behind to win the game in the end. It seemed that the terrible fielding by the Marlins really cost them this game as they had an early lead which slipped away
from costly fielding errors. It will be interesting to see how Florida manages to rectify their fielding issues before their next match-up.
The Phillies are a very powerful team that looks for any opportunity to avail and the cost fielding errors by the Marlins were proof of that. At this level of play, any team which commits costly fielding mistakes will eventually lose the game for a leading
position.
Philadelphia will be looking to carry their winning performance into the next game of this exciting series.
