Philadelphia Phillies defeat Miami Marlins 3-1 - MLB Update
Starter Joe Blanton impressed on his return from injury as he helped the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory against the Miami Marlins on April 12, 2012 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In their second loss without Guillen, Marlins are declining after every game.
The moment their offence kicks starts and begins to score some hits in a few games, the fans will start expecting a build up on this in upcoming games as they fall back on the same position they started from in the first place.
The same happened in the game for the Marlins. In their opening day start, they managed handful of hits and as soon as criticism rose on their offence, they fared better in the next games and in their recent game they looked again no different than they
were in their opening day start.
Despite having star players like Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez and Emilio Bonifacio, they are not getting the hits. Phillies on the other hand even without their best hitters did stupendously well.
They struck two homers in the game. Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton lifted the Phillies' offence largely.
Victorino went 1-for-4 and thrashed a homer-run. Third baseman Placido Polanco connected one hit in four at-bats.
Phillies will be proud of the kind of rotation they possess. An ideal regular season rotation, Blanton who threw an amazing spell of seven innings can easily be eclipsed in the presence of aces like Roy Halladay, Vance Worley and Cole Hamels.
"It's fun just to be back out there and not have anything weighing on my mind," Blanton said. "By the end of spring, I had a feeling my stuff was pretty good. I had a lot of positives coming out of spring."
Marlins saw an ordinary show from their starter Mark Buehrle. He threw for little more than six innings and gave up eight hits and struck-out two.
Miami will be under pressure to perform in the next few games. From now onward their rotation is as much under the scanner as is their offence.
It appears that Fidel Castro’s fiasco has taken a toll on the whole team. Instead of exploiting the weaknesses that the Phillies suffer at the moment they forgot their own strength and looked clueless in the ground.
