Philadelphia Phillies defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 – MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 26 at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season and took the decisive two games’ advantage.
Phillies had already won the first game with big advantage while now they are looking forward to oust their opponents to win the series in the very next game which will be played on Wednesday.
Catcher Carlos Ruiz and Michael Schwimer played tremendously for the Phillies and made two runs on three hits along with two RBIs on his four at bats.
"I was trying to stop myself from jumping in the crowd, I'm an emotional person. You have to be who you are. My plan of attack was just to execute pitches and go from there. Those are situations I love. I've gotten in trouble in the past by getting too excited. I've learned to channel that." Schwimer said with confidence on his own performance.
Later Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel explained some different aspects of his teams performance and said, "He got out of a tough jam, The more you succeed and leave that game on a positive, that helps your confidence."
Pirates’ manager Clint Hurdle, who has lost the third consecutive game, spoke to the media personals with much disappointment. He said, "There were some good things going on, He's probably like the changeup back to Wigginton, but he kept us in the game."
Phillies’ played combined especially their starting pitcher Vance Worley performed tremendously and earned a great victory for his team.
He pitched well in his six innings spell as he received six hits, three runs and three earned runs. He also struck-out five batters of the Pirates and maintained his 2.92 ERA.
Erik Bedard however, could not show his natural game as he finished four runs on eight hits and four earned runs as he only struck-out three hitters.
Now the importance of next game has gotten higher. The Pirates will play the next game to stay in the series while the Phillies will play for series win.
