Philadelphia Phillies down Milwaukee Brewers 7-6 as Erik Kratz strikes two-run homer - MLB Update
In spite of the four home-runs that the starter Cliff Lee gives up, the Philadelphia Phillies manage to clinch a 7-6 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 24, 2012 in the second game of the three
match series.
For most part of the nine innings, the Phillies trailed. It was the rain of hits coming off in the eighth from their part that ensured the victory.
The game was an epic display of an incredible comeback into the game by a team. As the innings progressed, it was just believable that the Phillies will need a miracle for winning. Apart from one run in the first, they were scoreless before the start of
the eighth.
Their pinch hitter Erik Kratz played an important part in the triumph. By hammering a home-run, he generated the kind of momentum which resulted in a victory eventually.
As soon as he made the clean connection, the catcher Carlos Ruiz followed with a double, bringing three more runs.
Meanwhile, the Phillies will be concerned with the fact that their starting pitchers are struggling on the mound. Despite possessing credentials for throwing complete games, they are surrendering home-runs and causing defeats. In the last game, Roy Halladay
was roughed up.
On Tuesday, it was Lee who disappointed the management. By conceding 12 hits and giving up six runs in seven innings, he failed to make up for the poor performances he put up in the first half.
Thanks to the Phillies’ relievers, rough up by Lee did not result in his loss. Jonathan Papelbon did the closing job. He threw scoreless inning at a time when it mattered the most. He rightly earned his 22nd save of the season.
Meanwhile, Brewers will be disheartened as an impeccable spell of seven innings by their starter Zack Greinke went in vain due to the run-leakage by the relief pitchers.
Philadelphia can take positives from the fact that their hitters have begun making connections on a regular basis.
Only area that the Phillies will like to witness better results from in the next game is a quality spell of reasonable number of innings from their starter. It will be interesting to see to what extent they can be successful in this regard.
