Philadelphia Phillies edge past Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 – MLB news
Philadelphia Phillies edge past the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 in the third game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, June 02 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Phillies took early lead in the very first inning and later defended it with great energy. They rattled the Brewers with persistent hammering and won in the end.
“Just the life of his fastball and his confidence, It's tough to dig big hole with (Lee) on the mound,” Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said of what is ailing Fiers.
Phillies pitchers and at the same time batters played terrifically incredible and helped their team win the game as well as the series.
“The way the scouting report is, it looks like I didn't read it, Brown's been crushing that pitch for a month and I didn't get it in enough. It's embarrassing to me. I made it tough on the team. They battled back that makes it even worse. We could have won
this game,” Mike Fiers said of Brown's homer.
Fiers added, “It was just bad pitching on my part, It's tough on a team to get going when the pitcher doesn't do well in the first inning.”
Cliff Lee started the game for the Phillies and allowed only three runs on seven hits. He pitched 7.2 innings and struck out eleven Brewers’ hitters on 2.45 ERA.
Relief pitcher Justin De Fratus pitched 0.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit. He also played well and pitched strongly on the mound by maintaining his 2.70 ERA.
Closer Antonio Bastardo pitched the last inning of the game and scored one run on two hits. He also allowed one earned run but he remained consistent on his 2.25 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Phillies hitters also showed their true offensive class and helped south Philadelphia side win the last important game of the series.
Jimmy Rollins scored two runs on two hits. He batted quite well and played quite consistently on his .407 ERA.
Talented left fielder Domonic Brown was exceptional on the mound. He ran for four RBIs on his three at bats. He scored one run and maintained his slugging percentage at .574.
