Philadelphia Phillies edge past St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 – MLB Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies edge past the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 25 at Busch Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Right Fielder Hunter Pence played well for the Phillies and earned a great win for his team.
"Every win is big, and to get the lead in the 10th inning is huge, no matter how you get the runs across," Pence said. "I don't care if it's a bloop, broken bat, anything, an infield hit. I didn't see either one, I didn't see his or mine. It's just that
twilight time. There's like a good 10 minutes at night where the ball and sky look the same."
Cliff Lee also started well for the Phillies and never allowed the St. Louis batters to play him easy.
"Things happen. You can't really control it as a pitcher," Lee said with confidence. "I did have a two-run lead that I let slip away, so that's my fault."
The Phillies with this win also won the second consecutive win after winning the first game with a close margin10-9.
Not only the Phillies have defeated the Cardinals to take control of their winning streak which now strengthened at three games, but they also managed to turn their defensive strategy into offensive as its proving too good for their opponents.
Friday’s game was a combined effort from the Phillies roster as they never allowed the Cardinals to take control of the game and eventually won it in style.
The Phillies, from start of the game entered with huge optimism to win, while with the help of pitching offence they did it with style as well.
This win now gives them a very good chance to bounce back in the competition. At the moment they are at bottom in the National League East with low winning percentage of .511 along with 24-23 win loss record, but if they want to come up in the Division,
they have to keep up this winning combination intact which will certainly give them more stability in the season.
