Philadelphia Phillies fall to Milwaukee Brewers 2-6 as Vance Worley leaks runs - MLB Update
The starter Vance Worley gives up four runs as the Philadelphia Phillies lose 2-6 to the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 17, 2012 in the second game of the four match series.
The Phillies have another day with little production seen from the offence. They struck just six hits on Friday. Apart from one run in the fourth and ninth each, the Phillies were scoreless throughout the game.
On the other hand, Brewers added four runs in the fourth inning, which made sure that Philadelphia will require something out of the ordinary to happen to bounce back in the game.
In light of the fact that the Phillies have been weak offensively in the season, it was almost certain that they will be defeated after they were trailing by a reasonable number of runs.
Furthermore, their starter Worley found it hard to block hitters for striking productive hits. For an offence which suffers with serious loopholes, the starter is supposed to finish scoreless innings in order to ascertain the victory. Far from this, Worley
leaked runs and therefore with the little support from the offence, the defeat was inevitable.
Worley realises the damage he did to the side with a dismal show on the mound. He is extremely unhappy and believes that he is far from his potential.
"It's upsetting," Worley said. "I know I'm better than what I'm doing. I'm just not catching the breaks this year. But I did give up a hit to the pitcher."
B.J. Rosenberg succeeded Worley on the mound. Instead of restricting the flow of runs, he permitted Brewers to strengthen their lead further as he gave up two runs.
Phillies’ slump grows deep. While earlier they were at-least winning games however occasionally, currently they have completely forgotten the formula for producing victories. Apart from Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, most of their batters are not stepping
up.
Similarly, their starters that are considered to be far better than their offence in terms of showing consistency are also struggling.
In light of the fact that they have not performed well in the last two games, it is hard to expect that they will improve in the remaining matches of the series.
It is hoped that the Phillies find a way out from the current jinx of their slump and come up with better shows in the upcoming games.
