Philadelphia Phillies hammer San Francisco Giants 7-3 – MLB Recap
Philadelphia Phillies hammer San Francisco Giants 7-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on July 30 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
"I think the trade deadline for our team has been a distraction, I'll be glad when it's over," manager Charlie Manuel said.
The Phillies played wonderfully and remained calm during the entire game. They played very well and showed great temperament and eventually won the game with great style.
"We just have to do our job, (Trade rumors) are part of the game. It's one of those things where you have to put it in the back of your mind and play. It's something you can't control," Lannan said after the game.
Phillies entire batting lineup stood tall against the top Giants’ pitching lineup and hit them hard with home runners and top class running between bases.
"My family is a massive consideration in the decision-making process, I'll just leave it at that, Those things are between me and the Phillies,” Young said when asked where he'd like to go.
Third baseman Michael Young started well for the Phillies. He scored two runs on two hits while he remained calm on his four at bats. He ran for two RBIs as he also showed his great consistency on the plate achieving phenomenal slugging percentage of .411.
“We do have the talent here, but a lot of guys have been banged-up," Young added.
He no doubt paved the ground for the Phillies with his aggressive batting stance. Later John Mayberry Jr. also played well for the Phillies and helped them win an important first game of the series.
He scored one run and smashed two hits while he also ran for two RBIs on his three at bats. It was a good win for the Phillies as Mayberry Jr. hit hard against the Giants’ aggressive pitching.
Along with batters, the Phillies pitchers also played a huge role in their team’s win. They all pitched well and remained consistent on the mound.
Starting pitcher John Lannan pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits and three runs. He also allowed three earned runs on his 4.10 ERA.
