Philadelphia Phillies house a dynamic pitching force
The Philadelphia Phillies have the strength to prove it and they most probably will say many baseball experts. The club has a vital chance to sweep through the World Series and they have the assets to prove that easily.
The club has been picking up attention in the media and there is great emphasis on its stride towards the playoffs. The team has a dynamic pitching rotation and that is one of the key reasons why the club has picked up most of the attention this year.
The club holds 5 top players in the rotation and that is what the side will need in the starting line up to pile on the damage. Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Joe Blanton are the best pitchers a team could place in rotation.
The irony here is that the fifth starter for the Phillies happens to be the former number one starter for the Oakland Athletics. That player is none other than Joe Blanton.
"Hopefully, the (opposing team's) line up falls asleep and thinks they have to face these four guys, and I'll just kind of slip right in", Blanton said bluntly. "It's great to be part of it".
The opposing hitters will be given a run for their money when they go up against the Phillies. It would be a devastating situation if the club manages to miss out on their World Series chances this year.
Manager, Charlie Manuel, is up for winning the National League East title for the fifth straight year and their ultimate goal is to reach the World Series.
"Obviously, that is the ultimate goal", said Lee. "The first thing you've got to do is get there. We've got to play 162 games to get to the postseason".
Lee went on to say that once the team reaches the finals, it needs to win the last game to bag the World Series
"But if we're saying right now (that) we're going to win the World Series, that's kind of getting the cart ahead of the horse", said Lee. "There's a lot of things that can happen between now and then. So we need to focus on today, and tomorrow focus on tomorrow".
The Phillies began workout for Spring Training recently. Though they have the pitching strength, do they have the offensive strength to punch in runs?
