Philadelphia Phillies ink one-year contract with third baseman Kevin Frandsen - MLB Update
Third baseman Kevin Frandsen has signed a one-year deal worth $850,000 with Philadelphia Phillies.
The announcement has come against the backdrop of an exclusion of their regular third baseman, Plácido Polanco from the roster recently.
Phillies are short of options at third base. Even after clinching an agreement with Frandsen, infield issues remain. It can be expected that the Phillies visit the free agent market and ink a blockbuster agreement with some of the players available there.
As far as credentials of Frandsen at third base are concerned, he can act as a reliable back-up player for this position.
Even during 2012 regular season, he performed his role well when Polanco missed out on the matches due to an injury.
He posted an incredible batting average when he was called up to the team.
Kevin struck home-runs and played an important role in the late season recovery by Philadelphia.
While he produced such offensive numbers, he nearly guaranteed his place in the team for an upcoming season. For experts, it was easy to believe then that the Phillies will not overlook him during offseason.
Frandsen will be mindful of the role that he has been assigned.
He cannot afford to squander the opportunity of playing with such a high profile club and floundering. By putting up consistent shows next year, he can raise his value as a player. That would mean a higher amount of money in the contract that he signs beyond
2013.
In short, the upcoming season will be an opportunity for him to prove his mettle. In order to make sure a great number of organisations are interested in him by the time the upcoming offseason starts, he will be looking to be excellent in 2013.
An unsuccessful campaign of the Phillies in 2012 has disappointed their fans immensely. Team officials are trying their level best to remove flaws in the roster and add those players that can be crucial to success next year.
Apart from infield, they will be filling spots in their outfield soon.
Their fans will be bracing for a flurry of changes in the next couple of weeks in the roster.
