Philadelphia Phillies lead Major League Baseball in terms of attendance - MLB Update
Despite having a disappointing season, Philadelphia Phillies lead the list of clubs that drew the highest level of attendance during 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. They were feeble, below par and downright mediocre and yet they attracted fans
to their stadium.
Right from the beginning, they have been suffering lengthy losing streaks and their players have performed far less than their potential.
Phillies won the National League East Division Championship in the last five years. Fans are used to watching their team routing oppositions and making it harder to record wins against them.
Even more significant is the fact that the Phillies host stars on the roster that are capable of turning things around in a matter of minutes. The likes of Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Cole Hamels can dismantle even the most formidable opponents.
Their calibre can easily make the fans set high expectations from the club and keep coming to the stadium even when the chips are down.
One of the reasons why the Phillies have not lived up to the expectations of the multitude of fans that thronged their stadium during the season is the host of injuries they suffered. Most of their quality players remained out for most part of the season
due to injuries.
The Phillies even entered the season with Utley and Howard out, which meant that their offence will be depleted and will struggle to post runs in the matches.
Both these players have been the part and parcel of their offensive success in the last couple of years.
Thus, when the Phillies fared below par shows, it was not hard to determine as to why they were experienced such a miserable fate.
Total attendance of the Phillies has stood at 3.57 million which is more than the 3.54 million of the New York Yankees.
It is for the second year in a row that the Phillies have led Major League Baseball with regard to experiencing the highest number of attendance. However, the fact they have not performed well in the season can result into a decline of the number of fans
in the upcoming year.
The Phillies will be looking to please their fans by coming out strong in the next season.
