Philadelphia Phillies lose 1-2 to Los Angeles Dodgers as Cliff Lee faces another loss - MLB

Starter Cliff Lee suffers a loss as the Philadelphia Phillies are defeated 1-2 by the Los Angeles Dodgers, on June 5, 2012, in second game of the four match series at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Poor Lee is betrayed again. In a quality spell of over seven innings, he drew 12 strike-outs. Yet, he faced the grim reality, in the form of a loss. In how many games his contribution has evaporated in thin air, without rendering substantive affect on ultimate
outcome of the game, is a question that he can ask from the Phillies’ offence.
In his 0-3 win-loss record in 2012 season, one can never cast aside role of the Phillies’ offence, which actually was the undoing. For, he is not the kind of pitcher one can expect that he can put up such an unimpressive record in the season. His career
win-loss number of 119-72 is always there to remind one of his excellence as a starter.
Lee stood grieved over how his effort went in vain, after the game. He however is steadfast and re-iterates commitment to keep creating opportunities for wins.
"Nothing I can do about it," Lee said. "All I can do is try to give the team a chance. I did that tonight and we came up short."
In contrast to Lee, the counterpart, Chad Billingsley struck-out just three in seven innings and claimed the win.
The Phillies had seven hits in the game; more often than not those ended up becoming dead-rubbers. Short-stop, Jimmy Rollins struck two hits in four at-bats, but no RBI came off.
Similarly, first baseman Ty Wigginton, despite connecting two hits did not cause any RBI.
For as long as Ryan Howard and Chase Utley, two premier hitters of the Phillies, remain out, issues with the Phillies’ offence are likely to stay unresolved.
The fact Utley gave indications of an immediate return, in an extended rehab game, the Phillies can brace for the good news.
Gloomy state of affairs with the Phillies needs a sliver-lining. Sudden lift-up in the form of flurry of wins can do wonders and can re-energise their hopes.
To this end, they will hope, their hitters begin showing consistency and provide necessary support to starters in the games to come.
