Philadelphia Phillies lose to Detroit Tigers 1-2 – MLB Recap
Philadelphia Phillies defeated by the Detroit Tigers 1-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on July 26 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
The Tigers played wonderfully and helped their team win an important first game of the series. Their batters and pitchers played as one unit and rattled the entire Phillies roster with great power.
"I do take pride in going fast. It's a fine line between working fast and hurrying through your delivery. You keep your defense on their toes. They're more behind you when you're working fast at a good tempo,” the Detroit right-hander said.
On the other hand, the Phillies played poorly and never showed any fighting spirit and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
"Pretty easy when you're pretty much on the same page, and he's getting it, getting it back up there throwing it, When he's throwing strikes and getting guys out, it's pretty fun," said Avila, Detroit's catcher.
Their batters and pitchers did not show any good plays and defeated by big margins.
Starting pitcher Cole Hamels pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He allowed two earned runs on and struck out six hitters on his 4.09 ERA.
"Changeup. He threw a hanger -- that's what it was. I just saw it out of his hand, and it was up, and put a pretty good swing on it," said Avila, who is hitting .187 on the year.
On the other hand, the Tigers batting lineup played well and gave early advantage to their team.
Shortstop/ second baseman Hernan Perez scored one run on one hit. He played well on his two at bats while he remained consistent on his slugging percentage of .346.
Second baseman Ramon Santiago also played well on the plate. He scored one run on one hit. He played well on his two at bats while he remained consistent on his persistent slugging percentage of .253.
Catcher Alex Avila also played well down the order. He batted for three times and scored two RBIs on one hit. He showed great temperament and maintained his slugging percentage of .304.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister pitched eight innings and allowed only one on three hits and played a key role in his team’s win.
