Philadelphia Phillies lose to Miami Marlins 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies lost to Miami Marlins 2-6 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 29 at Marlins Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Phillies played poorly from start of the game and gave enough chances to their opponents to oust them.
They looked tired as they just had a bad series with the Pirates. Though the four-game series was level 2-2, but in last two games, the Phillies lost bitterly.
Phillies were handcuffed by starter Josh Johnson who pitched six solid innings and received only one run on four hits. He allowed one earned run and struck-out six opposing batters as his ERA remained consistent at 3.80.
"This month wasn't the best pitching-wise, but someone had to step up and try to help the bullpen out a little bit, He rakes, We were talking about it after his third hit, he never stops hitting." Johnson said.
Marlins' manager Ozzie Guillen commented on his starter’s contribution and said, "He's our ace for a reason, I didn't think we had back-to-back wins since spring training, It seems like we're coming around little by little. When you jump up 1-0 with J.J. on the mound, it is a different ballgame,"
Even Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said for Johnson’s great outing which was the real difference in both teams’ offence, "Johnson was good tonight, Johnson's a good pitcher. Give him credit, too, but at the same time, we scored one run off him.”
Cliff Lee on the other hand, was denied yet another win as he finished receiving six runs on ten hits along with six earned runs. He did not play his natural aggressive game and was hammered with enormous power by the Marlins' batters.
Right-fielder Giancarlo Stanton played Lee’s fast pitches well. Overall he made two runs on two hits along with an RBI.
Logan Morrison and Justin Ruggiano also played well for the Marlins as both scored two runs together.
To their six run response, the Phillies however only managed to score two runs with the help of their second baseman Chase Utley and right-fielder Hunter Pence.
