Philadelphia Phillies may put Placido Polanco on disabled list as return uncertain - MLB

Despite denial by the third-baseman Placido Polanco, a statement by the Philadelphia Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel that nothing can be said about his return with certainty is a reason enough to believe that he may be put on the disabled list. Polanco
suffers with sore left wrist and is currently going through a treatment at Philadelphia.
Injuries have marred the Phillies’ progress in the season enormously. In every department of the play, an unfortunate reality prevails for them. Earlier their ace Roy Halladay was reported with shoulder injury and hence was put off the season for six to
eight weeks.
Apart from injuries that surfaced during the season, some of their highly dependable players have not made an entry in the season yet, due to the same reason.
Chase Utley and Ryan Howard have not played a single game of 2012 regular season. Both these hitters mean a lot to their offence. It is for the same reason that their offence has failed miserably in the season.
An injury by Polanco was the last nail in the coffin as it compounded woes of their offence. Not just run-production, fantastic plays that Polanco can make at third base were also not forthcoming. It is no surprise then that acting third baseman Ty Wigginton
has cost the Phillies so many fielding errors and has allowed opponents easy runs.
Wigginton is disheartened with his performance on the field.
“I don’t know what it is,” Wigginton said. “I just booted a couple balls the last couple days. … I went through ruts before in my career. You just battle right through them just like you do at the plate.”
The Phillies cannot afford to leak runs through fielding errors. As Polanco undergoes examination, the Phillies are hoping to bring him back at the earliest and curtail errors at third base.
Manuel however is not impressed by Polanco’s recovery of left wrist. He believes that at-least three or four more games will not feature him in the line-up.
How far the Phillies’ misery continues can be anybody’s guess, but one thing is for sure that unless the areas which are controllable are not addressed and worked out, betterment cannot be expected.
