Philadelphia Phillies outclass Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 as Ryan Howard hits home run - MLB Update

First baseman Ryan Howard hits his first home-run of the season as he leads the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 16, 2012 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles in the first game of the three match series.
A little support from the offence and great control shown by the starter Joe Blanton ensured the Phillies’ triumph.
Whenever Philadelphia loses a game, it is due to either a dismal show by the offence or some of their pitchers allowing a run-spree.
However on Monday, the Phillies were fortunate to experience a terrific performance from all departments.
Besides Howard, the short-stop Jimmy Rollins struck a home-run for the Phillies.
Rollins faced three at-bats and connected one hit.
Meanwhile, by slamming a home-run, he put a halt to the debate about his role in the line-up and how he contributed toward a forgettable season so far by the Phillies.
Similarly, Ryan Howard, who had question marks on his return in the season as many believed he may not be as prolific as he has been in the past, reinforced his credentials as a powerful hitter on Monday.
As far as the Phillies’ pitchers were concerned, Blanton threw an impressive eight innings, while striking-out seven and giving up two runs. Even better was the closer Jonathan Papelbon, who while continuing his late-inning dominance, recorded his 20th
save of the season.
Howard shared his jubilance after winning the game. He stated that regardless of what happened to them in the first half, they cannot give up on searching for victories.
Ryan further elaborated that they have to build on the momentum irrespective of the kind of pitchers they come across.
"It gives us a lot of hope," Howard said. "I mean, you have to forget what happened in the first half. We just have to keep doing what we're doing right now as a team and as a unit. The goal for us right now is just to go out and win a series, no matter
who's on the mound."
After losing first game of the series, the Dodgers will a little low on confidence.
Thus, the Phillies have a good opportunity to clinch a series victory.
