Philadelphia Phillies outclassed by Atlanta Braves 6-12 as Antonio Bastardo slips – MLB Update
The relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo leaks three runs as the Philadelphia Phillies are humiliated by the Atlanta Braves 6-12 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 8, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
The Braves stun the Phillies with four runs in the seventh.
By the time the Phillies blew the lead in the fifth, they managed to stymie the onslaught that the Braves launched at the start. Therefore, they were all set to build on their run-rampage in the fifth and score more runs.
Just when the Phillies could think of winning the game, Atlanta re-launched an attack, getting four runs in the seventh and as a result taking the game away from the Phillies. Afterward, the Braves gave little chance to Philadelphia to counter-attack.
For the Braves, credit goes to their strong bullpen. Late in the innings when the Phillies made every attempt to bounce back, they were made helpless by the impeccable innings from their relief pitchers.
Offensively, the Braves saw their centre fielder Michael Bourn and the second baseman Dan Uggla making bulk of the contribution.
The double that Uggla struck in the seventh proved decisive in the game as it sent three players aboard.
Braves’ starting pitcher Tim Hudson was a disappointment on Wednesday. In little more than four innings, he gave up six runs and allowed three walks.
Meanwhile, Hudson believes he was going fine until the start of the fifth when he surrendered five runs.
"In the fifth, I don't think I made a good pitch the whole inning," Hudson said. "I was spotting everything the first four innings. I felt good. I thought I would be going seven or eight."
Thanks to Atlanta’s relievers, after the poor start by the starter, not even a single run was given up. The relief pitcher Chad Durbin earned the victory. He completed a scoreless inning at a time when the Phillies had the best opportunity to come back into
the game.
The series has come to an end now. The Braves will be happy as they witnessed their offence finally stepping up the way it is renowned for. They will be looking to carry the momentum forward in the next series.
