Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Shane Victorino wants long term commitment – MLB Update
Training in Florida in 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training, veteran Philadelphia Phillies’ outfielder Shane Victorino is expecting a long term contract from the management. Recently, he spoke in the media giving the reporters complete impression of his true dedication with the Phillies.
“Why not make it happen now?” The all-star centerfielder said. “I love this place,” he said. “This is the place that gave me my chance. I’m a World Series champion in this city. That’s stuff that forever will be remembered. I want to be here.”
He added, “I look at it this way,” he said. “If it’s a significant difference, I have to weigh my options. I obviously love playing in Philly. They made me who I am. That sits in the back of my mind. But I also understand there’s a window. Age and time comes into play.”
Victorino is playing in the Phillies franchise since 2005 and now sits at comfortable position as experienced member of the franchise’s 40-man roster. While since he has spoken in the media about his great desire and true commitment with the team, the Phillies are also thinking to give him a potential long contract to give his career a new boost.
31-year old, Victorino will also like to end his career in the Phillies organisation if he gets the particular long contract in the near future. His free agency, which will give him free will to join any team in the League, is coming after this season. Already his agent has been taking this matter seriously, but both are still giving no impression to the media about any potential talks that they had lately been doing with two to three franchises.
Experts believe as if the Phillies do give him another contract, this will help them greatly on two spots. First they will be able to play their offensive game with quite ease and secondly the experience of Victorino will give great confidence to the Phillies current young roster. From every prospective, it will help the Phillies to come up with more flair which will eventually give them edge on the other teams in their own division.
