Philadelphia Phillies outscored by Arizona Diamondbacks 2-4 as Kyle Kendrick leaks runs - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies are undone by their starter Kyle Kendrick as they lose to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-4 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 3, 2012 in the first game of the three match series.
The Phillies’ offence sinks to new lows as they continue showing silence against the quality pitches. On Friday, despite having the likes of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, they failed to chase down the feeble lead that the Diamondbacks were maintaining throughout
the game.
In the fourth and fifth inning, the Phillies put up resistance, but the fact afterward they were unable to keep the momentum going held them behind the Diamondbacks in terms of runs in the end.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia did not score runs against the relief pitchers after Diamondbacks’ starter Ian Kennedy restricted them. By drawing runs from the relievers, the Phillies could easily record the victory but unfortunately their hitters lacked the vigour
to do so.
Phillies’ starter Kendrick did not last more than four innings on the mound. He issued five hits and gave up three runs, which eventually led to the team’s defeat.
Meanwhile, Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel elaborates the incident when one of their hitters was about to tie the score in the game before the umpire ruled him out.
"He was safe," Manuel said. "I saw it real good. I think he knew he missed it. That's why I didn't argue with him a long time."
Philadelphia will be extremely disappointed with the way the losses are being experienced. Instead of showing signs of improvement, the performance of their players is worsening.
Perhaps, as one can believe, confidence of the whole team is at the lowest ebb. That must be restricting them to unleash their best. Some of their players are not showing even what they are actually capable of.
The fact the Phillies resorted to unloading roster before the trade deadline may have weakened their already sapping offence further. This in turn is resulting into such dismal shows by the whole team.
By making sure their offence hits reasonable number of at-bats, they can come out much improved in the next game. The Phillies manager Manuel will be looking forward to this.
