Philadelphia Phillies outwitted 2-6 by Atlanta Braves at Turner Field - MLB Update
The starter Roy Halladay gives up three runs as the Philadelphia Phillies are defeated 2-6 by the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on July 29, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
The Phillies’ offence was quiet again. Halladay became the victim of poor run support. Even though he struck-out seven, he suffered the loss in the end.
Although Phillies made reasonable number of hits on Sunday, they were unable to convert them into runs on the scoreboard.
With the nine hits struck, they could use them for winning the game, provided they had base-runners on the positions at the right time.
Their centre-fielder Shane Victorino was 3-for-4 in the game.
However, both the second baseman Chase Utley and the first baseman Ryan Howard were hitless.
As far as the Braves’ offence is concerned, their third baseman Chipper Jones connected two hits in four at-bats. He contributed one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tim Hudson threw little more than five innings for the Braves as a starter. Though he issued seven hits, he was successful in keeping base-runners from going aboard in most of the occasions.
Hudson is extremely grateful to the offence, which has always rallied for his support whenever he has stepped on the mound this year.
As he recorded 10th win of the season on Sunday, he is fairly pleased with the way things are happening for him.
"I've been fortunate to be able to go out there and stay healthy since I missed that first month," Hudson said. "Guys have played really well behind me. Every time I've gone out there we've scored runs. It's easy to get wins when they score five or six runs
for you."
Atlanta’s relief pitchers have been the team’s main strength this year.
Interestingly enough, it was glaringly visible on Sunday. All the relievers that the club introduced wrapped up their innings scoreless in the game.
Meanwhile, Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez has talked about the Phillies, saying that they are going through a lean period at the moment.
"They're a good club, and they still scare you," Gonzalez said. "They're not clicking on all cylinders right now for whatever reason.”
The victory has solidified the Braves’ second position on the National League East Division table. They will be hoping that their momentum stays on course as they play upcoming games.
