Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels shatters Arizona Diamondbacks’ offence – MLB News
The Arizona Diamondbacks have recently lost to Philadelphia Phillies 2-7 in their final game of 2012 Major League Baseball regular series season in which starting pitcher Cole Hamels played tremendously and proved decisive factor for Philadelphia side who
clinched the series with 2-1 as well.
The Diamondbacks came into that particular game with big energy as their manager Kirk Gibson talked to media just before the game on Wednesday after-noon stating his team’s extraordinary offensive thrust which will give the entire roster somewhat right force
to bounce back in their three match encounter.
However, later that afternoon, the Diamondbacks were surprised to see how Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels hammered their all hopes of getting back in the series when he retired 18 consecutive batters and received only four hits at Chase Field to shut
down Arizona with style.
Gibson said of Hamels, "He was good, what, 67 pitches after six innings? He commands the zone with all his pitches and he'll throw any pitch at any time.”
The Diamondbacks leadoff hitter Willie Bloomquist also appreciated Phillies pitcher on his tremendous performance during all eight innings.
Bloomquist said, “He's got 17 different pitches and he threw them all for strikes. When he's locating his pitches like that he can be awfully tough."
The Diamondbacks veteran hitter Bloomquist was the only player who played relatively impressive against Hamels. He struck a double while rest of the roster could not even hit until seventh innings.
On his tremendous ball play, Hamels, also said, “I was keeping the ball down pretty well. When the ball was up, I was getting bad swings and pop-ups."
The Phillies manager Charlie Manuel was also very happy for Hamels and for his team’s key players which have started to perform with their best abilities.
"Yeah, the last couple days we're starting to swing the bats better. We're being aggressive, getting good balls to hit, and we're starting to hit some balls hard."
On the other hand, after performing wonderfully in the recent series, Hamels is now preparing for upcoming regular four match series against the Miami Marlins.
