Philadelphia Phillies put left hander Cliff Lee on trade waivers - MLB Update
As per reports, after being unable to decide any deal with the interested organisations before the trade deadline, the Philadelphia Phillies have put their starting pitcher Cliff Lee on trade waivers.
The Phillies have shown their intention of trading him, but the fact they want the interested teams to acquire his whole contract, which entails a whopping amount of money to be given to the starter over a period of time, has made it difficult for the trade
to materialise in the first place.
Philadelphia maintains a five-year contract with the left hander. However, he has struggled this year and has failed to keep the team afloat during tough times of the season.
The pitcher with which a team has committed a huge amount of money cannot last long in the club after putting up below par performances in a season.
Lee, along with the rest of the starters on the Phillies’ rotation, has been mediocre on the mound. He has found it difficult to restrict batters from accumulating runs from his throws in the season.
Although he endured the reality of little support from the offence, he cannot absolve himself from the losses that came his way.
At the start of the season, Lee did throw excellent spell of innings despite not being able to record any win. From his rhythm, it was believable that soon he will begin winning matches to keep the Phillies from declining.
However, after he was slightly roughed up in a couple of outings, his confidence went down, which triggered a kind of downward spiral that eventually resulted into his dismal overall numbers in the season.
Meanwhile, Lee has discussed the intent of the Phillies regarding him.
"They told us those were rumours and there wasn't anything really in the works," Lee said Tuesday. "Ruben did tell me some teams did propose some stuff to him, but nothing that even made close to sense for the Phillies. I signed here to win here. Obviously
nobody is happy the way this year has gone, but this is where I want to be. We still have a lot of talent."
As the days pass, it will be interesting to note whether any organisation acquires him through trade or not.
