Philadelphia Phillies record 5-2 win against Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park - MLB Update

Philadelphia Phillies surge to a 5-2 win against the Chicago Cubs as their starter Joe Blanton exhibits control on the mound at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 28, 2012.
Losing streak the Phillies suffered earlier has started to turn into a winning one. A change in line-up did pay off as Jimmy Rollins who led off the first time went 1-for-4 and added two RBIs.
Although the number of hits was just six, lower than eight hits Cubs generated, it was an acrobatic show by the base-runners that helped the Phillies more.
Poor start by the Cubs’ starter Randy Wells caused his immediate withdrawal from the mound. This also reflected the pressure Cubs were put under straight away by the Phillies right at beginning of the play.
In little more than three innings the Phillies drew four earned runs from Wells. Four walks he gave added to his woes on the mound.
Things have begun to roll for the Phillies as reports confirm an imminence of an arrival of their most dependable hitters, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.
It is believed that as soon as Utley arrives, Rollins will assume permanent role at the top of the line-up as opposed to at third which Utley will occupy.
For first three innings, the Phillies went scoreless and then in fourth they picked on a run-spree. In the bottom of fourth, Shane Victorino reached home plate on a single by Carlos Ruiz to centre.
Then in the same inning, Ruiz completed his quest, scoring on a double by Rollins to right.
A last nail in the coffin of Cubs was pinned when Ruiz struck a homer in the bottom of the sixth to left-field.
Praising Rollins after the game, Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel said he has been getting right swings, only the fortune has not been to his favour so far.
"It was a huge hit in the game, but he's had some bad luck," Manuel said. "He's been hitting some balls good. It's not like he hasn't been getting good swings."
Phillies will love to build on their win and use some momentum to the maximum in the games ahead. With their offence kicking off, it seems they have found the right combination they have been missing so far in the regular season.
