Philadelphia Phillies’ relief pitcher Brad Lidge sidelined due to soreness in biceps – MLB News
It seems as if the Philadelphia Phillies will have to lose one of their pitchers for few days as Brad Lidge complained of soreness in his right arm on Monday. The 34-year-old right-hand thrower also missed the Grapefruit League game against former club Houston
Astros on Monday due to reported tendonitis in his biceps.
Lidge participation in Thursday’s “B” game have also been under doubt as pitching Coach Rich Dubee did not confirmed about his recovery. However, Dubee made clear that he would remain under consideration and would not leave the camp for long. He further
added that small injury did not make him completely out of class as he had already made enough innings in spring.
Lidge was observing this problem and was not feeling easy in recent days but according to him it did not annoy him, as it was a minor case. While talking to reporters on Monday he explained his injury and said, "To be honest, I felt great coming down here,
but somewhere in my first outing or two, I just felt a little tightness in my shoulder, and I tried to throw through it a couple times.”
The injury might have gone to condition that is more serious before evaluating it but Lidge stopped himself playing in game and working hard to show off. It was always hard to put your best if you have such injury, according to Lidge.
"Obviously, it was hard to have great control and improve on arm strength when you're trying to fight through it a little bit, so we just decided [to shut down]. It is not really a major deal. It is biceps tendinitis. We'll let it calm down for a couple
days, play catch for a couple days and get back in there soon."
He has given up five runs in five appearances all expanded to one inning each and in this spring managing 9.0 earned runs average. He had average last season of 2.96 with 52 strike-outs and 1.23 WHIP.
The right-handed Lidge debuted in Major League Baseball in 2002 for the Astros and served them for five years until 2007. He switched to the Phillies in 2008 in a three-year contract. The two time All-Star selection has a record 26-29 with 3.57 ERA.
In Monday’s game at Osceola County Stadium in Florida, the Phillies crushed Houston in a close 7-6 confrontation. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels for the Phillies provided five runs but also struck-out four batters to give some relief for the club. However,
he received three home-runs that made some problems for the Phillies. Houston’s starting pitcher Nelson Figueroa consumed five allowing six hits striking-out three in four innings. The game was tied at 6-6 until the eighth inning but the Phillies succeeded
in gathering a single to take the victory 7-6 over Houston.
