The Philadelphia Phillies’ talented relief pitcher Kyle Kendrick, who is considered one of the best fast throwing relievers within their franchise, now explaining why he enjoys more starting a game rather play as a relief pitcher.
Lately, he has signed a two year contract extension with the Phillies that also gives him some more confidence to talk publically to play on his favourt position. He stated in the media as he likes to start a game comparing to perform after six innings.
Kendrick said, “I love to start and I think I’m a pretty good starter, but here we have five good starters and so you kind of wait your turn and see what happens. But I’m prepared to do whatever I’m asked to do.”
However, the Phillies management have also announced that their former reliever Kyle will be playing this Major League season as starter. The Phillies have somewhat appreciated his last season’s 15 starts on which they won National League East division title.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Phillies management have extended his contract for next two years and now hoping as he will perform for them with more positive thrust. The contract will give him $7.5 million in 2012 and 2013 excluding performance bonuses and incentives.
The Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. is also happy for Kendrick as he said in the media, “Kyle has played some pretty important roles for us, particularly as a starter, but he’s also adapted pretty well to being in the bullpen, He’s willing to do
anything you ask him. He’s done that the last few years. I’m glad. He deserves this. And we like the fact we get a little cost certainty out of this.”
In the meanwhile, for Kendrick, it is a good sign to play for the Phillies for another couple of years and as a potential starter. His past four years’ performances are speaking for him as he can be a good player on starting position as well. This Spring
Training however, also gives a huge chance to Kyle to perfect his game not only for himself but also for the team.
