Philadelphia Phillies rout Miami Marlins 4-0 – MLB Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 4-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 13 at Marlins Park in Miami.
This is a healthy sign for the Phillies as they won the first game of the series against the Marlins. They needed this boost as recently their performance had been quite down. Though against the St. Louis Cardinals, they played well and won the series but overall their performance in the second half of the season has not been up-to the mark.
In Monday’s game, the Phillies played as one unit and won in the end. They played a balanced game and did not show too many loop-holes in their game which proved wonderful for them as they defeated the Marlins with style.
Phillies' upfront offence showed their valour and earned a deserving victory. Their experienced players performed with big energy and rattled the Marlins wit big force.
On the other hand, the Marlins played under pressure from start of play and lost in the end. They never showed any fighting spirit which proved disastrous in the end as they lost with big margin.
Phillies’ starter Cole Hamels alone pitched nine innings and did not allow any run. He received seven hits and retired five batters on 2.91 ERA.
"I play to win, I'm not going to go out there and give up on a season that can be supposedly given up on already. I want to win every game I possibly can start streaks right now that can transfer into next year. Ultimately, if it doesn't work out this year, hopefully it makes me better for next season and the season after that," Hamels said with detail.
Hamels added, "I've felt physically fine and strong, I think I just really haven't been able to get that fluidity of just being able to let a pitch go and know exactly where it's going to go.”
Marlins' starter Nate Eovaldi however, pitched poorly as he hammered with three runs and eight hits. He was only able to strike-out two and his ERA rose to 4.28.
