Philadelphia Phillies rout Miami Marlins 7-2 – MLB News
Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 7-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 03 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
"In the last two or three weeks, he's put a lot of energy in our game," manager Charlie Manuel said after the game.
Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick pitched wonderfully on the mound and proved one of the winning factors for his team. He pitched all the nine innings of the game and allowed only two runs on six hits. He struck
out five, while maintaining his ERA at 3.12. Kendrick provided a strong platform to the Phillies and intelligently pitched during the entire game.
"It was a good game for the first four innings, Then they put some good at-bats together and we couldn't hold them down," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said with disappointment.
Along with Kendrick, the Phillies batting lineup also showed their offensive class and kept scoring on persistent basis.
Centre fielder Ben Revere scored one run on two hits. He ran for a single RBI on his five bats but at the same time, he remained consistent on his persistent slugging percentage of .283.
Left fielder Domonic Brown also played well and scored one run on three at bats. He ran for three RBIs and managed to maintain his slugging percentage of .592.
"I'm not really big on numbers, I watch my at-bats every day, see which ones are good and try to keep improving. That's just an inside thing with me and Ryan, I'm not going to get into it," Brown said of his
celebration with Howard.
On the other hand, the Marlins couldn’t do much against the strong Phillies defence. Tom Koehler started the game for the Phillies and was hammered with big hits. He pitched five innings and allowed five runs
on seven hits. He also allowed four earned runs along with two homers.
Not only Koehler but the Marlins closing pitcher, Ryan Webb, also allowed two many runs and could not just stop the Phillies consistent run towards a welcome win the series.
