Philadelphia Phillies rout Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3 – MLB Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 25 at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Pirates did not play well and never looked comfortable playing against their much tougher rivals. The entire Pirates’ roster entered into Citizens Bank Park with lowered confidence due to previous defeat from Detroit Tigers.
Playing defensive in the first three innings, the Pirates somehow managed to score three runs, but their weak pitching gave away too many waivered deliveries and could not save the game as they lost with bitter humiliation in the end.
This is also important to mention here that the Pirates’ had also lost the early series from the Phillies. While this was the second series in which they supposedly had a chance to oust Philadelphia with their experienced players’ persistent performances. However, not only did they again fall short with a five run deficit, but they also showed very little fighting spirit during the entire game.
In Monday’s game, both teams’ started well as the Phillies remained more determined and eventually won the game in style.
Joe Blanton played wonderfully for the Phillies and tossed seven innings with great accuracy. He received three runs on seven hits while he struck-out eight talented batters with his ERA moving to 4.87.
“It helps. It allows you to be more aggressive and if you make a mistake, it's OK," Blanton said.
Jeff Karstens on the other hand, played poorly for the Pirates. He pitched five innings and received seven runs on eleven hits while he also received six earned runs as his ERA rose to 6.35.
"It was a matter of not locating. They hit some good pitches for hits and some bad pitches." Karstens said.
Later Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel said for his team’s great win, "We were aggressive, they started throwing the ball around, starting making mistakes and that helped us get four runs, He's getting his timing down and swinging pretty good."
Many experts believe that the Phillies are currently going at a smooth pace while their recent consistent performances which will also help them achieve post season qualification with ease.
