Philadelphia Phillies salary arbitration process may lead them to further complications
Experts believe that the 2012 salary arbitration process might damage the Philadelphia Phillies leaving some extra complications for future seasons as well.
But for some, this year will be tough for every Major League team who has not yet defined their salary and arbitration cap involving every single player on their 40 man roster.
However, looking at Phillies five offseason players including outfielder Ben Francisco, pitcher Kyle Kendrick, pitcher Cole Hamels, outfielder Hunter Pence and Wilson Valdez on arbitration, who are still waiting for their salaries to be decided by independent panel in February, is pretty embarrassing for the franchise itself.
Though, Major League Baseball authorities took an initiative in the annual winter meeting and official general managers’ meeting in Milwaukee to balance the little space that has pushed the league on back-step on its salary arbitration rules. However, still nothing has happened to give some relief to suffering professionals.
This recent arbitration fear has also spread among top executives of the league. They openly might have spoken against it, but they have yet to comment officially on this dire situation that involves majority of MLB players.
The same reason also barring Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes to enter in the league especially in the Phillies’ team.
Recently, the Phillies' assistant general manager Scott Proefrock has also spoken in the media explaining about Cespedes’ and the factors which are causing a bit of a stir in the media and putting his free agency on hold.
Proefrock said, “We’ll be happy if we get five months out of him, quite frankly. Anything in front of the first of May would be a bonus. All indications are he’s feeling great and is in great shape. Everything is geared toward sometime in May. And for what, from our perspective, anything before that would be great players. We don’t want a situation where he re-injures himself or stresses it so we’ll err on the cautious side.”
In any case, Cespedes arrives in the Phillies or not, they must be doing something to sort out all these salary arbitration issues before any new player comes in for future seasons.
