Philadelphia Phillies score a comfortable 8-4 victory over Arizona Diamondbacks – MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies’ put in a good performance on Wednesday, April 27 as they beat Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 at Chase Field, Phoenix.
The Phillies are faced with an utterly difficult situation as they have barely been able to come up as a serious contender owing to the games they have lost. Of the 24 matches that the team has played, they have managed to win only eight and losing eight
others. However, Wednesday’s game revived hopes that the Phillies had the potential to start their winning streak again.
Importantly, the last game that Philadelphia played was an infallible show of their pitchers’ excellence, but here they got a few massive hits. However, there is a reason and Cole Hamels can explain it well especially after his giving up an RBI double. “I
don't necessarily think it was a pick up," said Hamels, who threw 100 pitches for the fourth straight start. "You're not going to have good games all the time, but just knowing these are some of the best pitchers in the game and you have to go out and pick
up your end of the bargain."
The Diamondbacks had come into this match with a degree of confidence as they had won their previous two games against the Phillies. However, their confidence was shattered by what seemed an unexpectedly good performance by the Phillies. Arizona had their
weaknesses in the game, as their starting pitcher Joe Saunders was one of them. He gave up 10 hits which involved six runs as well.
However, Saunders struck a note of hopefulness. "You have to keep your head up, turn the page and get ready for next time because I don't think I am pitching that bad," said Saunders, who has lost his last four decisions, dating to last season. "It is just
the results aren't there yet. I am going to go home, sacrifice a live chicken and turn this thing around."
In the very first inning he gave up three runs and four hits. The Phillies made things worse for Saunders in the second inning with another run and two hits. The Phillies took the lead to 6-1 in the fifth inning, as Saunders was once again taken to task.
The Diamondbacks occasionally did put some effort to make a come-back in the game.
Their offence tried to capitalise on Hamels playable fastballs. They had a fair share of success as well, but as the game progressed, it was the Phillies which had the upper hand, as J. J. Putz pitched a shutout 9th inning to pave a comfortable
8-4 victory over Arizona Diamondbacks.
