Philadelphia Phillies seek acquisition of Miami Marlins’ outfielder Giancarlo Stanton - MLB Update
A Major League source has reported that a number of organisations are keen on acquiring Miami Marlins’ outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. Philadelphia Phillies are also a part of those teams that are interested in Stanton.
After the Marlins slashed payroll by trading their expensive players, they have created an impression in the market that they will be willing to remove some other members of the team from the roster.
For the same reason, the Phillies along with other clubs have sought information about Stanton, who plays for the Marlins.
Further developments in this regard can take place. The Marlins appear to be indifferent toward Stanton as they are not excited about offering him an extravagant contract extension.
In spite of the fact that Stanton stood out as the only reliable offensive player for the club during 2012 regular season, it is uncertain whether the Marlins will be willing to offer him the kind of deal that he is looking for.
Stanton boasts credentials of becoming an incredible offensive force for the team. He is still at the initial stages of his career. By the dint of his consistent shows, he was selected for the All-Star Game, which he unfortunately did not play due to injury.
In the midst of constant failures by Miami during 2012, he was the only player who stepped up and struck home-runs on a regular basis. His tremendous outing in the last season signals that he will be even better during 2013.
The Marlins were criticised vehemently by the fans when they got rid of Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle through a trade. Even Major League Baseball took time and considered various factors before approving the deal.
Against this backdrop, it is highly unlikely that the Marlins will trade Stanton, because doing so will invite another wave of criticism against officials of the team.
The current development of earnest interests shown by various clubs for obtaining Stanton will be under the observation of the MLB.
The commissioner, Bud Selig will be keeping track of the events regarding Stanton and making sure that the Marlins do not marginalise aspirations of the fans in the process of fire selling.
