Philadelphia Phillies sign six-year contract extension worth $144 million with Cole Hamels-MLB

Finally, the Philadelphia Phillies put halt to speculations and confirm a six-year contract extension worth $144 million with their starting pitcher Cole Hamels. The deal has been made official on Wednesday.
A few days ago, the sources were claiming that both the parties are about to give the final touch to the agreement. They had stated that since the trade deadline has neared, the Phillies will go all-out to conclude this issue.
Meanwhile, the contract now ends the rumours about invoking free agency after this season by Hamels. Earlier the reports claimed that Hamels desires to enjoy the excitement of being in the free agency market.
Therefore, one was curious to know how Hamels will respond to the offer that the Phillies had made to him.
The questions were being asked that if he really likes to become a free agent, how he will keep the Phillies’ management from retaining him.
However, as the agreement has been reached now, Hamels is extremely comfortable with the knowledge that he will remain part of the Phillies for six more years.
While he wanted to be valued through free agency, he had also expressed his affiliations with the Phillies.
Therefore, it is easy to believe that if one puts aside the matter of money and his penchant for being valued, one cannot doubt the kind of relationship he has developed with the organisation and that is how he wishes to keep it intact.
"I wanted to give the Phillies every opportunity," Hamels said. "It's very hard to leave a place that you've had so many great memories. You don't want to miss it and not be a part of it. I know the organization has always done a good job of going out to
win. We have great players here. You don't want to have to leave that or stray away and see them win and you're not part of it.”
Meanwhile, the agreement has made Hamels one of the few starters in the baseball history with such an expensive contract inked with a Major League club.
Certainly, the deal is an ideal scenario that Hamels has ever wished for. Therefore, he will be ecstatic and will be looking to serve the Phillies the way he has done in the last few years.
