Philadelphia Phillies slip to Milwaukee Brewers 4-7 as Josh Lindblom gives up three runs – MLB
The relief pitcher Josh Lindblom gives up three runs in little less than one inning as the Philadelphia Phillies fall to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-7 at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 16, 2012 in the first game of the four match series.
The Phillies experience another failure. Their starting pitcher Cliff Lee let the Brewers post an early lead, which they were able to keep substantiating as the innings progressed.
Offensively the Phillies connected 12 hits and yet they struggled to make the most of them. While the Phillies were leading before the bottom of the eighth, their inability to protect the difference to a level from the late-innings upsurge by Brewers cost
them the game in the end.
For the same reason when the Brewers added four runs in the eighth, the Phillies’ lead was blown and under pressure in the last inning they failed to bounce back.
The first baseman Ryan Howard struck three hits for the Phillies in five at-bats.
Howard has not been able to produce hits consistently since playing the first game of the season. Therefore his tremendous show on the plate on Thursday will go a long way in helping him return to form in upcoming games.
Meanwhile Lee completed little more than seven innings and gave up four runs. Despite striking-out 12 in the match, he could not win.
Lee narrates the incident when the Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel approached him on the mound. He is of the view that despite the fact he wanted to continue throwing innings he did not argue with Manuel.
"I felt good, but it wasn't really debatable," Lee said. "Charlie came out there and said, 'We're going to go with a rightie.' Obviously, if he asks me how I feel, what I think, I'm going to tell him I want to keep pitching. It wasn't really up for debate.
He kind of had his mind made up. And considering Braun is 2-for-3 with two home runs, it actually made some sense."
The Phillies will be looking to get their offence capitalising on hits and transforming them into runs on the scoreboard in upcoming games. It will be interesting to see as to what extent they can be successful in this regard.
