Philadelphia Phillies’ third baseman Placido Polanco suffers stiff back - MLB Update
Stiff back has forced the Philadelphia Phillies’ third-baseman Placido Polanco out from the game. It has been reported that just like last year when pain arose on his back, he has experienced almost similar kind of situation again.
Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel is of the view that Polanco has been troubled by the pain for the last few weeks, which of late became severe and thus resulted in his outage from the game.
As far as Polanco’s performance in the season is concerned, he maintains a .255 batting average with two home-runs and 19 RBIs so far. He has been improving gradually. He, along with a comeback of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the line-up now, can certainly
get the Phillies’ offence to perform consistently.
While the Phillies have been below par this year, in the last couple of games they have improved considerably. One can say that they have begun showing the kind of performances that they have failed to put up for most part of the season.
With Howard hitting home-runs and Utley getting his composure back, the Phillies can make up for the losses they suffered earlier in the season. If not earning the second position on the National League East Division table, they at-least now have a chance
to improve their winning percentage.
In this connection, Polanco can play an important role.
Meanwhile, the Phillies’ manager Manuel talks about how Polanco went through the first half of the season. He narrates that in some occasions he has struggled to hammer hits properly.
“Lately, every now and then, it seems like he hits a ball hard it seems like somebody catches it or he’s always having to try to beat something out,” Manuel said. “At times, he’s showed me his bat speed is OK.”
Polanco has stated that he endured the same type of pain last year. He will be undergoing a check-up from the doctors now.
“Yes, you got it,” Polanco said. “It is kind of the same thing I had last year and we are going to have a doctor evaluate me today.”
In the next couple of days, Polanco will be trying his best to recover and return in the Phillies’ line-up.
