Philadelphia Phillies thoroughly beat Toronto Blue Jays 7-0 in Spring Training - MLB Update
Shredding concerns about his abdominal strain and playing a major role in Philadelphia Phillies’ second Major League Spring Training 7-0 victory against Toronto Blue Jays, Cliff Lee substantiates the club’s pitching credentials at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium,
Dunedin, Florida on March 6 in their Grapefruit League clash 2012.
As soon as two scoreless innings ended, Phillies increased the lead 4-0, one that kept leaping up until last inning. Despite hitting seven balls in the game, none of Blue Jays’ players could manage a run indicating the fact that Phillies’ fielders proved
equally fantastic in the win.
Lee threw for two innings and went scoreless allowing only two dead-rubber hits.
"I was just looking to get out of there healthy and feeling good," he said after confronting eight batters. "I would have liked to locate better but it was definitely a positive, a step in the right direction."
From Blue Jay’s camp, Ricky Romero, their Number one in starting rotation stood out finishing two shut-out innings, conceding one hit and making six groundball outs.
"I made some good pitches," Romero said.
Scott Podsednik who played just 14 triple-A games ever since signing Minor League contract with Phillies was called up during the play as a replacement for Victorino in fifth inning. He then went on to bring double in two at-bats.
Podsednik had a terrible injury-mired last year, a year he terms the worst of his life.
"Very frustrating," he said. "It was probably one of the worst years in my big-league career. For a guy who makes his money with his feet, to have two jacked-up feet, it's no fun."
Juan Pierre and Shane Victorino brought two runs to the side, with latter adding two scores in the inning which took Phillies’ total to a four run lead. Blue Jays’ free-agent signee, the reliever Rick VandenHurk conceded two walks to Juan Pierre and Jimmy
Rollins.
Two back-to-back wins against good sides like New York Yankees and Blue Jays will give the camp lot of confidence for playing next Spring Training matches. The Phillies will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward.
