Philadelphia Phillies thrash Miami Marlins 9-5 – MLB Recap
Philadelphia Phillies thrashed the Miami Marlins 9-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 29 at Marlins Park.
“I guarantee this, When he comes back next spring, you're going to see a guy who's ready to go, and strong," Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel said about his team’s performance.
Shortstop Jimmy Rollins put the Marlins’ under pressure with his three runs and three hits. He batted four times and maintained his slugging percentage at .429.
Second baseman Chase Utley scored two runs and smashed two hits along with three RBIs. He played sensibly on his four at-bats and maintained his slugging percentage at .446.
Along with batters, the Phillies' pitchers also played well and earned a great victory in the end. They pitched in the right areas and showed great commitment.
Roy Halladay pitched five innings and received four runs on six hits. He also received one homer but his overall pitching remained consistent at 4.49 ERA.
"The first inning was obviously very sloppy, But after that, I felt like it got better, Regardless what the results have been, I feel like I kind of owe it to my teammates to keep going out there, Chase continues to play and everybody else going out there and continuing to play, the last thing I'm going to do is not try and go out and pitch," Halladay said about his outing.
Relief pitcher Jeremy Horst also played well and did not receive any run or hit. He showed great temperament and maintained his 1.20 ERA.
On the other hand, the Marlins' pitchers did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation. They were hammered with big hits as they could not handle the Phillies' persistent hitters.
Starter Ricky Nolasco pitched five innings and received five runs and nine hits. He struck-out four while his ERA rose to 4.48.
“After the second inning, I felt like I had already thrown six," Nolasco said.
Relief pitcher Mike Dunn pitched 0.1 innings and received one hit and two runs. He could not strike-out any while his ERA rose to 4.53.
