Philadelphia Phillies to maintain highest Major League attendance in upcoming seasons-Part 3
Finding Philadelphia Phillies scoring five to six runs on average and sometimes routing the opposition with mammoth number of runs on the scoreboard would have been possible then.
At that time, their hurlers Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee had to experience an ideal opportunity to lead the Phillies to wins on a regular basis. Their best had to be seen then. In short, the Phillies will have easily righted their journey toward the post-season.
Old Phillies that the fans know from the past couple of years were seen in the latter half of the season, when they achieved consistency in winning matches. Such a late-season upsurge combined with the existence of those traded players will have powered
Phillies into the post-season.
Are Phillies going to learn anything from their complacent attitude toward offence and make changes for the future?
It seems they have actually realised what went wrong with them. Ousting coaches and the search for hitting assistants reflect their acceptance of the fact that all the problems they suffered during the season actually stemmed from offence.
While the season went on, Manuel expressed his worry over continuous failures of his side in number of areas. He talked of defence and offensive contributions of players. He is unequivocally clear in his mind as to what the team needs in order to challenge
oppositions and win games.
"I've been mad for three or four weeks; hadn't really been coming out. We've got to regroup and we've got to play much better. We've got to play smarter. We've got to know the game better," Manuel said. "And we've got to play better defense, have more knowledge
of the game, what to do."
An acceptance of the idea of having hitting coach assistants in the team shows that they are serious about eliminating the bugs and flaws and cracking down on weak-links prevalent in the club.
It can be inferred that the Phillies do not confront structural problems and the ones that take many years to get resolved. Instead the issues largely relate to proper management of given resources. They host quality players on the roster. Only obstacle
on their way toward becoming an invincible team again is proper management of them.
Phillies’ fan-base is not so volatile and prone to drastic changes in the loyalty that a bad performance in one season discourages them to stop turning to the ballpark for the upcoming years.
It has been built on solid grounds and there exists a relationship of trust. Most of the Phillies’ fans know what their team is capable of and believe that it is only a matter of few more seasons before they reinstate their rule in the National League East
Division.
Most of the clubs that know the art of replicating great performances during the seasons over and over again are good at analysing their weaknesses. The beginning toward glory starts from how loop-holes are detected and fixed.
Causes that are wrong and do not represent the actual reasons of the failure can sometimes be taken as true. Then based on them, actions are taken. More often than not decisions made this way lead to hardly any change in performance of the team. Unfortunately
a vicious circle continues and the real problem never gets resolved.
On the other hand, rightly determined causes assist the management in taking the proper steps. Eventually substantive improvements in performance are witnessed.
