Philadelphia Phillies to prepare for 2013 and give fans something to cheer about - MLB Update
Unlike the typical Philadelphia Phillies that the fans have known for the last five to six years, this season has seen them missing out on making it to the playoffs.
This has come at the distress of the huge number of Phillies’ fans who kept thronging the stadium throughout the season.
Phillies’ attendance number is the highest in the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season which reflects the confidence of their fans in the team’s ability to achieve something substantial.
Failure to qualify for the post-season may trigger changes in the club. The top management is aware of how badly the fans have been disappointed. If the Phillies continue putting up dismal win-loss records in upcoming seasons, fans’ interest may decline.
As a result, the attendance number may come down drastically.
Keeping this in view, it can be expected that the Phillies will go all-out to ascertain that they restore their dominance in the National League East Division.
As far as rotation is concerned, the Phillies hardly need any change because their arms are still among the best in baseball. The likes of Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee can still make the team a World Series playing unit.
Similarly their bullpen hosts young hurlers who are passionate about leading their team to glory next year.
During the season, Phillies’ relievers did not perform up to their potential. For the same reason some of the young Minor Leaguers were called up who then helped the team improve in this area.
“I guess we probably could have done a little bit better job in the bullpen,” General Manager Rubén Amaro, Jr. said. “We were kind of relying on some guys that had some success last year and after having lost four of those guys during the course of the early
part of the year, it was a little tough for us to recover. That was something I think that I regret a little bit.”
Amaro realises that the induction of new relievers in bullpen has strengthened it, which is a healthy sign for their upcoming season.
He will be looking to build up such a team which ensures them success for the years to come and keeps their fans connected with the club.
