Philadelphia - RESTAURANTS!?

Hey guys, I live in University City and I was wondering if any of you knew of any good places that had a BYOB policy with regards to alcohol.

I'm thinking of a place that'll be good for a big group because I'm going with a lot of friends.

We're looking for Mexican food and were thinking of LAS CAZUELAS (Girard ave), does anyone know if they card people? How about El Azteca? How strict are they with IDs?

Thanks!!

  1. I don't know much about Las Cazuelas, but I have heard from friends that it is very small, and quite expensive. I went to El Azteca for a friend's birthday party and it was great. Food was good and there was a lot of space. If you go on a weekend there will be more of a wait for a table, and it's usually really croweded. I have heard a lot of the BYOBs have been "cracking down" on IDs because of the amount of underage consumption. I was carded at El Azteca (and I'm 25, lol).

I would say that if you're looking for a BYOB so your underage friends (or your underage self) can drink, just stay home. Otherwise you're looking at getting not only yourself in trouble, but also the restaurant...

  2. You can try Nan on 4000 Chestnut Street. I don't know about Las Cazuelas carding people, why not just call them beforehand or have someone do it. Their number is (215) 351-9144. I don't think El Azteca is a place where their very strict with ids. Not 100 percent with them. Why not call them as well 215.733.0895. Good Luck and HAVE FUN!!!!!
